Whether you’re a boating enthusiast eager to explore new horizons behind the controls of you own boat, or a first-time rider seeking the thrill of operating a PWC, Yamaha Marine Academy ensures a fun and educational licencing experience. Held at two locations—Taren Point and Penrith—the courses combine classroom theory, online testing, and hands-on practical sessions to get you licensed and ready in no time.

With a supportive and experienced team, students not only gain their licences but also learn the skills necessary to enjoy boating safely.

  • Taren Point: Theory sessions are conducted at Taren Point Bowling Club, followed by practical training on the Georges River, departing from Hawksbury Park boat ramp.
  • Penrith: Theory classes are conducted at Maldini’s Restaurant, with the on-water session on the Nepean River, departing from Tench Reserve.

Morning Theory Session
The day begins with a detailed theory class where you’ll learn:

  • Boating rules and regulations
  • Safety protocols, including proper use of life jackets
  • Navigation and operational procedures for both boats and PWCs

Cory and Brodie provide clear and practical guidance, ensuring every student understands key principles. For those pursuing a PWC licence, the session also includes the specific modules covering the unique rules for operating these watercraft.

The aim of the morning session is to build a solid foundation for safe and enjoyable boating,

Lunchtime Knowledge Test
After the morning theory, it’s time to put your knowledge to the test. Don’t worry—this isn’t a high-pressure exam. Over a relaxed lunch, you’ll complete an online test via tablet, connected to NSW Maritime Services. The test is straightforward for those who paid attention during the morning session, and you’ll have two attempts to pass if needed.

Once you pass, your results are instantly logged, meaning there’s no delay in progressing to the practical component.

Afternoon On-Water Practical Training
With theory and testing completed, the real fun begins on the water. Using Yamaha Marine Academy’s boat, you’ll get hands-on training under the watchful eyes of Cory and Brodie. The practical session covers:

  • Boat ramp etiquette and safety
  • Pre boating checklist and launching
  • General boat handling and navigation.
  • Emergency procedures, such as man overboard drills.
  • Mooring techniques and safety practices.

Even if your primary focus is obtaining a PWC licence, the training is still conducted on the Marine Academy boat to maximise learning and ensure comprehensive understanding. By the end of the session, you’ll be prepared to tackle any waterway with confidence and competence.
